DIY Rainwater Harvesting Workshop

Capture water while it is raining this spring to use on your landscape later!

Join our free online workshop to learn the basics of DIY Rainwater Harvesting. The first 40 participants can pick up a barrel to take home!

Rainwater harvesting is great for North Texas because you can keep some of the rain we get during the spring and fall to use during our hot and dry summers. Even a small roof area can produce a usable amount of water during an average rainfall. From huge cisterns to small DIY barrels, capturing rainwater can be done by anyone.

Attend this workshop to learn the ins and outs of rainwater harvesting and pick up a rain barrel to take home!

Learn about:

• How much water your roof will produce in a year

• Where to put your rain barrel to capture the most water

• How to install a barrel

• How to hook up and use your new water source

• How to build your own 50 gallon rain barrel with just a few supplies from the hardware store

The workshop will be 45 minutes long and taught by Theresa Thomas and Claire Alford, Tarrant County Master Gardeners.

Mansfield, Texas Residents only: Get a free rain barrel from Mansfield Water Utilities!

When this workshop is in-person, attendees get to build their own rain barrel and take it home. Since we are unable to do in-person workshops at this time, in addition to the free workshop, we are offering the option to take home a barrel.

For the first 40 Mansfield, Texas residents who register and complete the workshop, a 50-gallon rain barrel can be picked up the week after the class. Barrels will be available for pick up in Mansfield. More details will be provided upon registration and workshop participation.

There are two options for this event. Please be sure to select the registration type that corresponds with your choice.

Workshop only, NO barrel: If you don't want a barrel, that is fine too! Get access to the online workshop only. You will get access to the online presentation about rainwater harvesting and the DIY rain barrel building, but will NOT get a rain barrel to take home.

Workshop and barrel registration (Mansfield, Texas residents only!): Get access to the online workshop and take home a rain barrel. You will get access to the online presentation about rainwater harvesting and the DIY rain barrel building demonstration, and a rain barrel will be reserved for pick up on the week after the class. There are a limited number of barrels available, so register now to reserve yours!

Attending the workshop is a requirement to get the barrel discount! You must have watched the online workshop to receive your barrel. This is an educational opportunity and the discounted barrel is only being offered as part of the educational workshop.

Rain barrel information: These rain barrels are discounted from $50 to $0. Barrels are 50 gallons and made from previously used food safe storage containers. The barrels will vary in color and could be blue, white, brown, or black. You do not get to choose your barrel color. Approximate dimensions are 35 inches tall by 24 inches diameter.

Pick up information: Barrels will be available for pick up in Mansfield on the week after the class. Check your email after registering for more information.

Pick up will be contactless and you will be required to load your barrel into your vehicle. Please wear a mask when you pick up your barrel.

One barrel per household. The address you register with must be located in Mansfield, Texas to be eligible to purchase a barrel. Any orders that do not comply with restrictions may be cancelled at TRWD’s discretion.
